Chairman's welcome message

Dear friends!

Democrat Youth Community of Europe enjoys being one of the oldest, if not the oldest, political youth organization in Europe. An organization rich of history and traditions but always young and fresh is the correct way of describing DEMYC. In my view, DEMYC can best be depicted as a family. A family has its traditions but is always very open for new members. Families often have long and illustrious history but most want to focus on tomorrow’s accomplishments rather than dwell on achievements of the past. These characteristics can all be applied to our beloved organization.

Furthermore most families have their disputes now and then. It is difficult to bring together a large group of people who don’t have different meanings about varying things. Family disputes are not only unavoidable but also beneficial in most cases. Such conflicts give the possibility to contemplate, re-bond and make a new beginning. Such is the nature of a strong family and such limitations show no weaknesses but rather great strength, if overcome. A great man once said: "Difficulty, my brethren, is the nurse of greatness - a harsh nurse, who roughly rocks her foster children into strength and athletic proportion."

Bearing that in mind I want to assure you all, that DEMYC has no intention to dwell in the past. We are about to unfurl our sails and set the course and are enthusiastic about discovering new waters. I hope you all will join us on that journey, a journey lasting the next two years which will be filled with adventures, excitements, new discoveries and maybe even enthralling dangers for us to overcome. As the new captain on the DEMYC crew I now call on you, my friends, and crew, to hoist the sails because wind is good and our barque is eager to show its strength and beauty!
