Election in Ukraine

Dear friends,

We are glad to inform you about the results of the elections in Ukraine. This is the first time in history of Ukraine that democratic forces won the communists. Political bloc Our Ukraine is a leader of election campaign. We won 15 regions of Ukraine from 27.

We would like to present you results, given by Central Election Commission, but they are not yet announced as the official one.

As you know, Ukraine has mixed election system. 225 seats of the parliament are elected by proportional system and 225 seats are elected by majoritarian system. According to the results submitted by the Central Election Commission, at the multi-mandate level the bloc Our Ukraine has got 23,54% voices of voters. Communists have 20,01 % voices, and they are on the second place. The third place is given to the bloc For United Ukraine with its 11,83% of voters’ voices, then go the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko (7,24%), the Socialist party of Ukraine(6,89%) and Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (united) (6,26%).

Counting all seats together Our Ukraine would get the biggest number of mandates in the future parliament – 112: 70 seats - on the party ticket and 42 seats- in majoritarian constituencies.

The bloc For United Ukraine would get 102 mandates (36 and 66, respectively), the Communist party - 66 (59 and 7), the Socialist party - 24 (21 and 3), the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko - 21 (all on the party ticket), SDPU(u) - 23 (18 and 5).

Apart from this, in majoritarian constituencies 4 mandates each would receive representatives of the bloc Democratic Party - Democratic Union and the Unity bloc, as well as 1 each - the Sea Party and the National Economic Revival Party. The rest of 93 mandates will be given to self-nominee candidates.

Chrystyans’ko Demokratychna Molod’ Ukrainy was one of the founders of the Youth Coalition Our Ukraine, which main aim was to support political bloc Our Ukraine during the election campaign. Members of CDMU were actively involved in the campaign at the all levels – national and local. And we should mention, we have good results. A number of CDMU members were successfully elected to local councils, and one of us, Volodymyr Bondar was elected to the Parliament. This means that these elections were successful for our Organisation and for Our Ukraine Coalition.

This is the responsible moment for us to continue active dialogue with the youth organisations of Europe in order to strengthen our position and spread the ideas of Our Ukraine Coalition. There is a political will to have one political party at the basis of bloc Our Ukraine (today bloc Our Ukraine constitutes of 10 political parties.) In case of its reformation CDMU will insist on co-operation between political party Our Ukraine and European People’s Party.

Dear friends, we are open to your questions and will be glad to give our comments on political situation after election in Ukraine.

Best regards,

Vladislav Synyahovskyy
