Youth for a peaceful Caucasus

Georgia, october 2002

This seminar was arranged by DEMYC in co-operation with CONSERVATIVE UNION OF GEORGIAN YOUTH (CUGY) The aim of the seminar was to bring young people from a centre-right background together from Armenia, Azerbijan & Georgia to discuss the issue of conflict solution. The seminar was if first of itīs kind and the outcome in form of enlargement of cooperation among young people of the Caucasus region sets good hopes in salvation
of the conflicts in this unstable region of Europe.

Besides the meeting in the conference hall there was also meeting with several different politicl parties in the Georgian Parliament. On this picture we are visiting the leader Gogi Topadze of the party "Industry saves Georgia".

The participants of the seminar also visited the new head quarter of the Georgian Christian Democrats (CDUG) There speaches were made by Mr. Paata Sheshelidze, President of SAQDA (GYCDA),Mr. Mamuka Orjonikidze, the Sec. Gen. of the CDUG, & Mr. Demur Giorkhelidze, MP. Afterwards CDUG was host for a delicious dinner. Besides all the political meetings there was also time to visit the most succesful vodka company "Ushba" in Georgia . Besides a tour of the plant the owner of the company mr. Gocha Pipia gave a speech on the political and economincal situation in Georgia seen from the point of view from a business man.

 

It is a old Georgian tradition to drink of a horn - a tradition that funny enough resembles an ancient Viking tradition. The DEMYC secretary General Mikkel Loft drinks with Charimen of CUGY Kornely K. Kakachia.
