The main aim of DEMYC is to further contacts and strengthen co-operation on both international and bilateral levels between its member and partner organisations from different European countries.
Moreover DEMYC serves as a platform for dialogue and exchange of opinions, ideas and experience on political issues, which often leads to adopting common standpoints, working papers, policy papers and resolutions. Topics discussed recently include:
- security and stability issues; NATO, WEU, OSCE
- new democracies a decade after the fall of the Berlin Wall
- new means of communication and information
- crisis management
- human rights and democracy in Europe
- the Middle East peace process
- the convention on the Future of Europe
Since the emergence of new democratic states in Europe, DEMYC members have been showing their support for democratic forces by participating in election campaigns, press conferences and discussion rounds and sharing their experience with young politicians.
